Liberated Churn Dash QUILT
Pattern guides you through the steps of foundation piecing your own liberated churn dashes in the two sizes I used to make my quilt. Lots of photos and tips throughout. Pattern was tested for accuracy and clarity. Make it modern, make it scrappy, make it now!
Quilt finishes at approximately 90" square.
Background Fabric: 10 yards
Use a Solid colour to recreate modern look of cover quilt
Backing Fabric: 9 yards
A directional print can help in quilt assembly—and create a 2 sided quilt!
Churn Dash Fabric: 6 Yards TOTAL
My suggestion is 1/2 yard of 12 different fabrics
Create a fabric palette using all cool or all warm colours.
I used a minimum of 10 different prints in each churn dash to create the cover quilt.
Fabric can be directional or not, have a theme, be batiks or solids. The amount of fabric varies greatly depending on how much of each you use and where (bigger churns use more fabric)
Binding Fabric: 1 yard
I used leftovers churn dash fabrics for the binding .
Queen Size Batting
Or at least 9—32 inch squares of batting
Quilting Thread to match Background Fabric
Long Ruler or cutting edge—mine is 22 1/2 inches long
Walking Foot—optional but useful
